One Iowa, The Gazette, The Advocate and GLAAD will host the LGBTQ Presidential Candidate Forum in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on September 20, 2019.
The forum will be held at Sinclair Auditorium on the Coe College campus in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and livestreamed through GLAAD's partnership across social and digital channels to a national and international audience. Pre-registration for every on site individual is required to attend the forum. We will need first and last name plus email address for all individuals in attendance.
Confirmed participating canddiates include: Former Vice President Joe Biden,United States Senator Cory Booker, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro, United States Representative Tulsi Gabbard, United States Senator Amy Klobuchar, former Pennsylvania representative Joe Sestak, United States Senator Elizabeth Warren, and author Marianne Williamson.
All presidential candidates will lay out their own vision on how they will protect and improve LGBTQ acceptance-including in the heartland and across rural America. Candidates will have designated time to address the audience, followed by a one on one moderated q&a led by Lyz Lenz (The Gazette Columnist), Zach Stafford (The Advocate editor-in-chief), and Keenan Crow (One Iowa director of policy and advocacy).
Doors will open at 6:15PM, with the program to run 7PM-9PM. All registered forum attendees will receive email updates regarding any security requirements for entry to the auditorium. Attendees are not permitted to bring any bags larger than a handheld clutch (4.5” x 6.5”) in to the venue. Guests are subject to search.
Parking will be available on the top 2 floors of the St. Luke's parking ramp. This is approxmiately a 2-block walk to get to the venue and the path will be marked. There will also be a shuttle operating from the 1st Avenue parkade in downtown Cedar Rapids, courtesy of NTS. Shuttles will begin at 5:30pm and run every 20 minutes until 6:50pm. A return shuttle will run from 8:50pm-9:50pm every 20 minutes.
